MECA Improvisational Quilting Garments Workshop

  • Maine College of Art & Design 522 Congress Street Portland, ME, 04101 United States (map)

Still a few spots left!! Join us on a transformative journey of fabric reincarnation! In this workshop, you'll learn to repurpose scraps and discarded fabrics into vibrant new yardage, perfect for creating stylish tops, tunics, or dresses.

Led by fiber artist Sharon Chandler Correnty, you'll explore innovative techniques to breathe new life into forgotten textiles. Together, we'll embrace remnants and transform them into something beautiful, unique, and functional. We'll explore how elements such as color, shape, and stitch lines can tell the story of a garment. You'll experiment with scrap fabric shapes-either through total improvisation or with a planned color theme. Choose from options like: complementary colors, solids, patterns, and similar or contrasting textures. This is more than just an art class; it's a step toward reducing textile waste and its environmental impact.
